Nantes Audience ‘Captivated’ by Chinese Culture and Performances Depicting Spirituality

February 24, 2024

Shen Yun Performing Arts was in Nantes, France, on Feb. 15 and 16. The performances captivated audience members through their display of 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture.

“It’s wonderful, it’s magnificent. I don’t have the words to say how beautiful it is but it’s very beautiful. I encourage those who haven’t seen it to come and see. It’s really a beautiful show,” said Martial Loiret, the former head of Support and Animation Division French Ministry of Agriculture.

“When the [dancers] are synchronized with the backdrop, there are moments where you’re captivated by the art and the tears aren’t very far away. There’s real emotion. Congratulations to the whole team,” said Philippe Bouzir, director of an IT service company.

“It’s all done to perfection. Because we’re in the entertainment business we can see the little things that go wrong, and here we don’t see any,” said Alice Maurage, a dancer at La Plume Rouge. “The dances are really fabulous and you can see that there’s a lot of work behind them, and the costumes are really remarkable too. A lot of skill from the men and a lot of grace from the women, and you can see that the movements are accurate down to the last millimeter, too. A lot of grace, a lot of detail in the gestures, in the bearing of the head and the facial expressions.”

Ancient Chinese people believed that their culture was bestowed by the divine. Its values are rooted in spirituality and are brought to life on stage.

“It’s precisely this value of the absolute that I like, the non-duality, that goes beyond materialism,” said Philippe Le Goff, a retired dentist. “That’s why I like it so much, and that’s what I like so much about this philosophy of deep spirituality. And I like the interactions of empathy and depth between the different characters.”

“We may or may not believe in a Creator but we should have a little faith. In the last show, the last dance we saw was about kindness and compassion,” said Didier Salmon, former chairman of Cabex. “That’s something we’ve lost a lot of in today’s world.”

Shen Yun will be heading to Tours, France, for five shows from Feb. 22 to 25.
