Shen Yun ‘A Soulful Performance’: German Audience

March 6, 2023

Shen Yun took to the stage in Ludwigsburg, Germany, from Feb. 21–25. The tour brought a first-class classical Chinese dance showcase, paired with a live orchestra.

“Absolutely powerful energy. Yes, it really is a goosebump moment,” said Susanne Busch, a therapeutic archery specialist.

“I am very, very impressed. It was beautiful, very traditional but also has modern influences. So I’m completely thrilled, it was a wonderful evening,” said Ernst Schassberger, a star chef.

“The work as a whole. Every single performer, the harmony, the choreography, the skill of the performers, the togetherness, and the big picture of it all, was simply fascinating,” said Gerhard Ascherl, the owner of Media@Home.

“They [the orchestra] play perfectly to the performances of the dancers. And that’s fantastic, of course. There’s not a beat off or anything. It’s a harmony, a unity: what you see on stage and what you hear. That’s very synchronous, of course; top-notch,” said songwriter Thorsten Deuschle-Wisocki.

“It’s beautiful to see, the beautiful ancient Chinese dances with this quality that you see here is enchanting. It warms my heart and I really get very emotional,” said Zoltan Kesmarki, the owner of a ballroom dance school. This was his second time seeing Shen Yun. He was impressed by the uniqueness of classical Chinese dance.

“The big leaps, the wonderful arm movements. My favorite part has been the Tibet story or the water sleeves, it’s like a dream. And the synchronicity in the whole company: enchanting. It doesn’t get more beautiful than that,” Mr. Kesmarki said.

Costanza Terino was a ballet dancer, she said Shen Yun is an artistic achievement. “You really notice that it is a soulful performance. Everything is well thought out, the choreography, then the dance, the music; it’s simply fulfilling and you feel that there is also a message behind it that really wants to be passed on. It really touched me deeply today,” she said.

Audiences also took note of Shen Yun’s mission statement: to revive traditional Chinese culture.

“I was really deeply touched by the traditions. That it is so important to live traditions, not only on special days but really every day, in everyday life. To be helpful! That touched me very much in one of the scenes,” Ms. Terino said.

“Traditional values are important in all cultures. Just as Christianity is important in our culture, they also have corresponding values, and that is important to keep people together. To get corresponding societies going in the same direction. Because values are what our human foundation is based on. And they were able to show very nicely in these dances how that is, but in the same way, it also works in the Western world,” said Attikus Schacht, the owner of Schacht Consulting.

“Not only through the dances but also the simplicity how it’s brought across, with such finesse. It’s not even possible to describe how much depth it has, how the artists connect, about what the story expresses, and how they convey that in this dance. Yes, basically I don’t have the words to describe it, it’s really just magical,” Ms. Busch said.

Shen Yun continues its global tour until May.
