Shen Yun Is ‘Amazing,’ Says Northern California Audience

December 28, 2022

Classical Chinese dance and music company Shen Yun Performing Arts returns to California with its all-new 2023 show.

Many audience members were impressed at Shen Yun’s Dec. 26 performance in Silicon Valley.

“I am quite impressed. It wasn’t anything like I expected,” said Gavin Daprile, engineering manager at Apple. I love the dance, I love the music. I love the thoughts that are behind the show. I love the backdrops. They’re fantastic. It’s very unique. Something I’ve never seen before.”

Alex Brown, a software developer said, “The combination and the intersection of the music, along with the dance, was something I hadn’t really seen before so it was really awesome.”

Kamesh Kothuri, the founder of a stealth mode startup, came with his wife and friends.

“It’s amazing. Very nice. And I like the way you have incorporated the technology as well as the actual performance. It’s very elegant—really love it. The costumes and the elegant things and the live orchestra is amazing.”

Shen Yun has an all-new production of choreography and music every year. One of its goals is to revive China’s 5,000 years of history and culture.

“I think that it’s important to look at culture and preserve culture, and then look in modern times and look at ‘how do we keep culture evolving and progressing,’” Mr. Daprile said.

Mr. Kothuri said, “Glad that somebody else is standing up and performing, to let the rest of the world know as to what it is.”

Bob Duplantier, a chief human resources officer, said, “I think we need much, much more of it.”

“We need something to inspire us because the current culture is not inspiring,” he added.

“Please keep doing what you’re doing. We need more of your work in today’s world.”

Shen Yun Performing Arts is performing in over a dozen California cities including San Francisco, Berkeley, Sacramento, and San Diego for its 2023 world tour.
