Police are investigating a shooting Monday evening that left four people wounded at a Walmart store in Beavercreek, Ohio. The shooter died on the scene from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

The attack was reported at around 8:30 p.m. on Monday at the Walmart on Pentagon Boulevard in Beavercreek, a town of about 50,000 in the Dayton metropolitan area.

“Police are on scene of a shooting that occurred at the Walmart in Beavercreek this evening. The building has been cleared and secured,” the City of Beavercreek Police Department announced on social media Monday evening around 9:30 p.m.

“There is no active threat at this time,” the post continued.

“Beavercreek Police are investigating and will release additional information once available.”

A police update on social media came shortly before midnight, revealing further details of the event.

“A male walked into the Walmart in Beavercreek around 8:35 p.m. Monday and began firing a gun, injuring four people,” the update said. The four victims were transported to nearby hospitals.

“A fifth person, the shooter, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” the post continued. “No shots were fired by any responding police officers.”

Police reiterated that there was no active threat.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families impacted by this horrific tragedy. We will release more information as it becomes available.”

Police said the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the FBI, and other local agencies, including the Greene County Coroner’s Office, were on the scene assisting with the investigation.

The shooter’s name and age were not disclosed, and the motive of the attack remains as yet unclear, but it is believed that he was the only suspect involved.

“The conditions of the victims right now is unknown,” police Captain Scott Molnar said at a news conference.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations confirmed to News Center 7 that they were requested to help with the investigation and determine what had led to the shooting.

“We’re heartbroken by what’s happened at our Beavercreek, Ohio store. This remains a developing situation, and we’re working closely with investigators on the scene,” Walmart said in a statement.

The Beavercreek shooting happened a day after two people were fatally shot in the parking lot of a Walmart in south Anchorage, Alaska. Upon their arrival, police found two deceased persons and a firearm. Police are working with Walmart to review the store’s surveillance video as they search for a suspect.
