Thinking of getting a real Christmas Tree this year?

Then get yours early. According to the Pacific Northwest Christmas Tree Association, there’s a shortage of trees across the country.

It takes years to grow a tree, so the cause of this shortage can be traced back to the recession in 2008. According to the association, there was an oversupply 10 years ago, and many tree growers decided to plant fewer trees that year. The effect of it is presenting itself now, where there is a shortage of the noble firs.

Just like everything else, the shortage means fewer choices and higher prices. The association predicts prices can be 10 percent higher this year.

Many people consider Christmas Trees a symbol for Christmas, yet this symbol for Christmas wasn’t an integral part of Christmas until the mid-1800. There is still debate about the origin of displaying a Christmas tree, but some say it’s something brought to America by German Immigrants in the late 1700s.
