Shutdown Showdown: Will GOP’s Proposed Spending Cuts Be Dead on Arrival?

A number of House Republicans are reportedly pressing ahead with proposals for deep spending cuts that would free up funding for the next fiscal year. The proposals have little chance of becoming law, however, and could lead to a government shutdown later this week. Will House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) be able to drum up support for a continuing resolution as a stopgap?

NTD spoke to Hugh Fike, the director of government relations for the Conservative Partnership Institute, about the likelihood of a shutdown—and what lawmakers on Capitol Hill can do to avoid it.
