Ukraine’s potential accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will be on the White House agenda Tuesday. President Joe Biden will host Polish President Andrzej Duda and the country’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk ahead of the upcoming NATO summit.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the leaders “will reaffirm their unwavering support” for Ukraine’s defense against Russia’s invasion.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg had previously said that all NATO allies were in agreement that Ukraine would become a member—but that it couldn’t join the alliance while the current war was in progress.

One condition for admission to NATO is that an aspiring country must resolve its territorial and international disputes.

Russia has long opposed NATO enlargement. President Vladimir Putin said after the NATO summit last year that admitting Ukraine to NATO “creates a threat to Russia’s security.”

NTD spoke with Ajay Bruno, a political strategist and former PR consultant, for his analysis of Tuesday’s meeting.
