Small-Business Sentiment at Half-Year Low

U.S. small-business confidence slid to a six-month low in December, according to The National Federation of Independent Business survey on Jan. 10.

An NFIB chief economist said, “small business owners are not optimistic about 2023 as sales and business conditions are expected to deteriorate.” 32 percent of these owners reported that inflation was their single most important problem, while 41 percent of them reported job openings were hard to fill. The difficulty was most noticeable in the transportation, manufacturing, and construction industries, the NFIB said.
