Social Media Influencers Felt Obligation to Return Favor After Shein ‘Boondoggle’: Analyst

Fallout surrounding the Chinese fashion company Shein’s efforts to negate allegations of forced labor ensued after the company flew social media influencers to China to bolster public relations.

Anders Corr, the publisher of the Journal of Political Risk, tells NTD these social media influencers were compelled to return the favor after being flown to China at Shein’s expense. He calls this a “boondoggle” that is similar to what is seen when China invites CEOs and U.S. politicians to the country in efforts to promote China.
