The exhaust from the Sun’s combustion stripped away Mars’ atmosphere, a new study released March 30 shows.

Four billion years ago, Mars had an atmosphere and a climate similar to that of Earth.

Solar wind, the particles expelled by the Sun as it continually explodes, left Mars dry and barren.

Scientists think that Earth was able to maintain its atmosphere because of the magnetic field generated by the rotation of its molten metal core.

Mars has a solid core. Because the core doesn’t move, it doesn’t generate a magnetic field.
