Singer Mariah Carey has impressed people with her bottle cap challenge video. Instead of using martial arts she used her impressive vocal technique.

While the rest of the world is spinning off bottle caps with flying backwards spinning hook kicks, Carey fooled everyone by using a high-pitched note to send a bottle cap flying.

Carey posted the video to her Instagram page on July 7. The post now has over 45,000 comments and over 4.2 million plays.

Challenge accepted! #bottlecapchallenge

Some of the comments, including those from celebrities, are saying Carey won the social media challenge. There is no official way to determine who won since there are no bottle cap challenge officials, but if the social media world agrees than there probably will be fewer videos posted by other challengers.

“LMAOOO it’s over. She won. Don’t even bother trying to participate in the challenge cause she won,” commented @itskioni.

“You win hands down,” commented Rita Ora.

“[T]he best one hands down,” commented Dinah Jane, formerly of pop group Fifth Harmony.

Justin Bieber also made a bottle cap challenge video on July 7, albeit after Mariah Carey, later in the day. Like most who have posted videos, he uses his feet to kick the bottle cap off.

I nominate Tom cruise and Hailey Bieber

Unlike Carey, Bieber chose to keep the challenge going by nominating his wife, Hailey Bieber, and his celebrity nemesis, Tom Cruise. Bieber’s video has even more comments than Carey’s, at over 48,100, and has more plays, at over 15.9 million.

This discrepancy makes sense when you compare their follower count. Bieber has over 114 million followers, while Carey has over 8.2 million.

Other notable bottle cap challenge videos include a woman who unscrews a hot sauce bottle cap by throwing a slipper. In another, a young boy unscrews a bottle cap with the kick of a soccer ball.

Martial arts actor Donnie Yen kicked his bottle’s cap off while blindfolded. For the task, he called on the power of some of his movie characters.

“Chirrut feeling the force + Ip man’s steady aim + no plastic bottle = the universe strongest,” Yen wrote in text accompanying the video.

Chirrut is a character Yen played in the 2016 movie “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” The character is a blind warrior. Ip Man is the legendary martial artist credited with training movie martial arts legend Bruce Lee. Yen played Ip Man in a few film roles, including “Ip Man,” “Ip Man 2,” “Ip Man 3,” and the upcoming “Ip Man 4,” according to his IMDB page.

Other bottle cap challenge videos can be seen posted all over Twitter and Instagram. Some are super low budget. Other look like they have received extensive preparation and even special effects work.

The New York Times guesses that the challenge first started to spread in mixed martial arts circles. The Times reported that it started with Kazakh Taekwondo champion Farabi Davletchin, who posted a video of him taking the challenge on Instagram. In the text area of the post, he challenged martial arts competitors and actors like Jean-Claude Van Damme, Conor McGregor, and Jason Statham to take the challenge.

Davletchin also didn’t call what he was doing the bottle cap challenge, even though it is identical to it. He included the hashtag #farakickschallenge. A newer video showed him doing the same thing, but to the tip of a pencil rather than a bottle. He included the hashtag #Pencilchallengekick.
