Uruguay will push for a free trade agreement with the Chinese regime, according to the South American country’s top diplomat.

The effort has already seen resistance from some of its neighbors. They favor regional trade talks instead of deals involving just one nation.

The plan was announced as the Mercosur trade bloc countries held their annual summit. There, they discussed opening the South American trade zone to China.

The bloc consists of Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay.
