South Korea watching out for greater provocations by North Korea

South Korea’s acting president warned that North Korea may run more weapons tests in the coming days.

“It is possible the North may wage greater provocations such as a nuclear test that is timed with various anniversaries including the Supreme People’s Assembly,” said acting President Hwang Kyo-ahn.

Hwang called on the military to closely monitor activities from North Korea and ensure close communication with ally United States.

The U.S. Navy strike group Carl Vinson’s trip to Australia was canceled. Instead, the aircraft fleet was redirected toward the western Pacific Ocean near the Korean Peninsula as a show of force.

North Korea’s state run media criticized the move, saying, “the reckless U.S. moves to invade our country has reached a serious stage.”
