Stranger saves mom and children in a rainstorm, asks for nothing in return

A Florida mother thanked a stranger who helped her when she was stuck in a rainstorm after her vehicle broke down.

Tawny Nelson, 29, said she was stuck in the storm when her truck would not start due to a dead battery. After spending two hours there—and being ignored by 20 people at a grocery store in Florida—an older man with a cane and a limp came to the rescue.

“I must have asked more than 20 people in the course of two hours for a jump,” she told reporter Frank Somerville. “They all ignored me. Not even a no. Just acted like i didn’t exist.”

But then, a 74-year-old man came to help.

“He handed me a plate of chicken strips and biscuits from the deli and bottles of water,” she wrote. He told her: “Feed those babies and yourself young lady. I have a tow truck on the way and my wife will be here shortly to take y’all home,” she recalled.

Then, a tow truck came and took the truck away, she said.

“The next morning the gentleman returned to my house with a mechanic who replaced my battery and alternator and fixed my window,” Nelson added. “The elderly gentleman then left and did not return.”

She wrote, “When I asked what I owed the mechanic and if I could make payments he smiled telling me the older man had paid for all of it.”

Nelson said that this act of kindness “revived [her] faith when I was falling apart.”

“I’ll never be able to thank him,” she wrote. “But I certainly hope one day I can do what he did for me for someone else.”
