Student Debates: Alternative Platforms May Help Protect Free Speech

Free speech is at the core of what high-school and student debating is all about. However, some debating platforms are seeking to steer students away from taking positions on topics they believe could be controversial, such as abortion.

As some institutions or platforms move to restrict free speech in such forums, other platforms are opening up to embrace this fundamental right. So how can such alternative platforms contribute to conserving free speech?

NTD’s Daniel Monaghan spoke with the founder of an alternative debate league called Incubate Debate, as well as a number of student debaters, to find out more.
