The U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama hosted students competing in the NASA 2017 Human Exploration Rover Challenge.

The competition began Friday, March 31, with students racing vehicles designed to look like space rovers on settings designed to look like the moon and other planets.

The students came from high schools and colleges in Brazil, Germany, India, and Mexico.

The two-day event ended with an awards ceremony, where winners in best design, best rookie team, best pit crew and other categories would be chosen.

NASA said the Challenge would hopefully encourage “a new generation of scientists, engineers and explorers.”
