Sammy Griner, who is now 10 years old, was called the ‘face that launched a million memes”. But despite being popular, his family did not use his fame to save his father’s life. Read on to learn more about the story of this boy and his ailing father.
If you are the kind who spends a lot of time online, then in 2010, you will have surely come across a photo of a baby with a balled-up fist. He was named ‘success kid’ after his picture went viral. But Sammy was just an ordinary boy and he never showed any interest in pursuing the internet fame that he had earned. He just remained a regular kid.
That was, until his father fell ill. Sammy’s father, Justin Griner, suffered total kidney failure.
It was one year before Sammy’s photo came up on the internet that his father was diagnosed with kidney failure. Ever since, Justin was surviving on dialysis. But in 2012, the doctors conveyed to the family that Justin had to go for a kidney transplant. The family was shocked and upset as they were not in a financial position to pay for such an expensive surgery.
Sammy’s mother, Laney, then set up a GoFundMe page, asking for help. When the picture of the family appeared in the page, it was not long before people recognized Sammy’s adorably familiar face.
Now, you can count on your internet fans in your hour of need, can’t you?
