Christmas is coming to New York City.
The famed Rockefeller Center Christmas tree was crowned with its new star on Wednesday, Nov. 14.
Created by famed architect and designer Daniel Libeskind, the star is back-lit by LEDs and is made of three million sparkling Swarovski crystals.
The inspiration for this year’s star is the beauty of starlight.
“There are 3 million crystals. It’s 900 pounds. It has new technology of LEDs that are really embedded in the core of the star itself so light can pulsate through the spears of light. It’s really illuminous project of light. That’s what it’s about,” says Libeskind.
“We all love. Stars are a wonder. We are part of the stars and when you meditate on the stars, you see the unity and peace of the world, so yes that’s how I started.”
The 9-foot, 4-inch star will be lit up during the 86th annual Rockefeller center tree lighting ceremony on Nov. 28.
