At least three people were killed when a hijacked truck slammed a Stockholm department store, Friday, April 7.
Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said, “Sweden has been attacked, everything indicates that this is a terrorist act. The government is doing everything to support the authorities who are working now.”
The truck, hijacked from Swedish beermaker Spendrups, was driven down a crowded street in central Stockholm, stopping only after ramming into Ahlens department store.
Swedish police closed off parts of central Stockholm around the downtown Sergels Torg [Square].
There have been several terrorist attacks using truck in the past several months.
In 2010 al-Qaeda urged its followers to use trucks as a weapon.
On March 22 this year, a man in a car ploughed into pedestrians on London’s Westminster Bridge, killing four.
ISIS claimed responsibility for a truck attack in Nice, France, in July 2016, which killed 86.
ISIS also took credit for a Christmastime attack in Berlin, which killed 12.
