Taiwan’s Economy Minister Talks CPTPP, China

China wants to join a major free-trade pact. And Taiwan’s minister of economic affairs highlighted some obstacles.

Last month, both China and Taiwan applied to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). But any new country that wants to join the pact needs the consent of all current member countries.

Taiwan’s economic affairs minister Wang Mei-hua says she’s not aware of any CPTPP member objecting to their application, though she can’t say the same about China.
