A 17-year-old Kansas girl who was found dead on June 29 was going to help an adult friend with chores before she vanished, her mother said.

Jasmine Mills’s body was found in the back of a semi-truck in Kansas City.

She was last seen by family members on June 29, her mother Deanna Peters told the Kansas City Star.

She said that Jasmine was slated to wake the adult friend up and help throw out his trash.

The friend later told Peters that Jasmine never arrived at his house.

“She pretty much looked at him like a dad or grandpa kind of figure,” Peters said. “I trusted her judgment because she’s known him forever.”

Police have termed the death as suspicious but no arrests have been made as of yet nor have any suspects been identified.

Peters said her daughter was ultimately “too trusting.”

Peters said her daughter often did odd jobs to make money.

Jasmine’s younger sister Aliesa Boll said that she was with Jasmine the day before she vanished. They cleaned the adult family friend’s semitruck in Olathe late that night and got home together the next morning.

“Last time I heard from her was 2 o’clock in the morning, because we had just came back from the person‘s truck that we were going to plan. He apparently called her and said that she forgot to do something and I don’t know that she was leaving. My last words to her were, ‘I’ll see you in the morning,'” Aliesa told KHSB.

“He called her again and said, ‘you guys forgot to take the trash out,’ and so she went up there by herself,” Kacee Knedlik, Jasmine’s godmother, added to KCTV.

Aliesa told the broadcaster that the adult male makes her uncomfortable.

“We’ve known him for a couple years, but I’ve never been comfortable around him and as many times as I’ve told her not to go out there alone, the one time she did, she came up missing,” she said.

Family members were upset about the death and the manner of death.

“I can’t imagine her just lying there next to broken beer bottles and trash, like really, you just throw her out? She’s not trash, she’s a person and there’s a whole lot of people hurting because of this,” Knedlik said.

The Olathe Police Department said in a statement on June 29 that officers were dispatched to Kansas City in reference to a suspicious death and that the deceased was identified as Jasmine, who was reported missing on June 28 after going missing on June 27.

Terry Zeigler, chief of police for Kansas City, had said earlier that day that the girl was believed to be dead for a couple of days.

Officials have released few details about the case but the Olathe department said its working with the Kansas City Police Department on the case.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Olathe Police Department at 913-971-6950 or the hotline for tips at 816-474-8477.
