History of Domestic Violence
Portwood previously served 17 months in jail in 2010 for a domestic violence incident. At the time, Portwood was seen during an episode of “Teen Mom” attacking her former fiancé, Gary Shirley, in front of their 1-year-old child, according to CNN.
“According to police documents, on August 14, 2009, Portwood shoved Shirley against a wall, slapped him on the face and choked him,” Indiana police spokesperson Mitch Carroll said at the time. “The incident was witnessed by the couple’s 1-year-old child who sat in a child seat on a nearby bed.”
