Women’s top-ranked tennis star, Ashleigh Barty, announced her retirement on social media Tuesday.

She wrote on Instagram: “Today is difficult and filled with emotion for me as I announce my retirement from tennis.”

Barty also said she’s thankful for everything the sport has given her, and leaves feeling proud and fulfilled.

Barty, an Australian, won the Australian Open championship this past January—and did so without dropping a set the entire tournament. The dominant win marked her third career Grand Slam title, as well as her final competition on tour. Barty also won Wimbledon last summer and the French Open in 2019. She was 11–0 this season and has held the top spot in the WTA rankings since September 2019.
