A Texas father averted an alleged car robbery attempt by shooting two teens who tried opening the car door.

In Northwest Harris County Sunday evening, a Texas father, his wife, and two infants were arriving home. At around 12:04 a.m., two teenage suspects approached the vehicle. According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the suspects, who were both 16 years old, tried to open the rear door, where the infants were located.

“The adult male feared for the safety of his family and fired shots and struck both suspects,” Gonzalez posted on Twitter, adding that “the wife was driving and drove away after the shooting to get away from the suspects.”

The suspects were shot multiple times. Video footage shows a bullet hole in the side of the car after the father shot through the back window.

An “unknown male driver” pulled up to the home shortly after the shooting and transported both of the wounded suspects to the hospital for medical treatment. They are “both said to be in stable and fair condition,” Gonzalez said in the post.

Officials say no one else was injured during the incident. No identifying information regarding the family has been released by the police. Police say the father was within his rights to open fire.

Investigators are still looking for additional evidence and video footage.

The investigation is still currently ongoing.
