After leaving his house almost a week ago, a police officer was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot near Baytown, Texas on Aug. 7, official said.
John Stewart Beasley, 46, was found at 8:30 a.m. by Texas Search and Rescue (TEXSAR). His body was found in an agricultural field approximately three-quarters of a mile away from his home in Cove, according to Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne, Click2Houston reported.
Beasley’s career spanned 23 years and most of it was spent on the streets of Baytown. According to Baytown Police Lt. Steve Dorris, there weren’t any assignments in the near or distant past that could have led to his suicide.
“It’s the unfortunate drip, drip, drip of stress, and trauma, and chaos that we as law enforcement officers deal with on a daily basis that sometimes takes its toll,” Dorris added.
As to showing signs of depression, Hawthorne was adamant that Beasley did not have depression because he had developed “a new fever in life” because he was in the process of building a new home. Whether a suicide note was left behind is still under investigation.
Family and friends are crushed at the loss of Beasley, to many people, he was a father, husband, friend, baseball coach, and weightlifting buddy.
The time of death is currently under investigation, there will be more information when the autopsy is complete. Beasley’s issued firearm has been recovered and is also part of the investigation, the authorities currently believe that the incident happened on Aug. 2.
