Thailand is celebrating a scaled-down Water Festival this year. The country is still mourning the death of the king, and security forces are staying alert to terrorism. But the popular festival will still go on.
Vallop Suwandee, chairman of advisers to governor of Bangkok talked about how the government is dealing with this and all other festivities, “In honouring the late king who’s lying in state in the royal urn, there will be no celebrations, no music, and no concerts of any kind.”
King Bhumibol Adulyadej died in October at 88. Despite less official support, foreigners and Thais still want to have a little fun.
