Fox and DreamWorks Animation’s “The Boss Baby” edged out “Beauty and the Beast” for U.S. weekend box office top spot.
“The Boss Baby” drew an estimated US$49 million in its opening weekend, according to boxoffice.mojo.com
The film follows a suit-wearing baby, played by the voice of Alec Baldwin, who upends a family with his arrival.
Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” came in second, earning US$47.5 million during its third week.
“Ghost in the Shell,” starring Scarlett Johansson as a cyber-enhanced human devoted to protecting the world from evil, came in third.
Lionsgate’s “Power Rangers” took fourth place during its second week in U.S. theaters.
Rounding out the top five was “Kong: Skull Island” screening into its fourth week.
