Recently, the U.S. military shot down a Chinese spy balloon that had been floating across America, collecting information. I examine all the details that we know about the balloon and what this means for U.S.-China relations.
China is economically, militarily, and clandestinely way ahead of where we think they are, and no amount of integration with their economy is going to change that. Whether foes or “frenemies,” they will not stop, and they are not going to be truthful or play fair. From denying the balloon to saying it was a weather balloon that veered off course, to now saying they want it back, China has a pattern of this type of behavior. China has also been buying up a lot of American farmland and owns a lot of our bonds. We may think of ourselves as inextricably linked, but only one can really be the dominant one.
