Thieves smashed single mom’s car windows TWICE in a week, she offered them food and friendship in return.
An eye for an eye does not always work.  Read on how a single-mother dealt compassionately with  hooligans and turned them into friends.
Sometimes we are very quick at judging people.  We don’t seem to understand the reason why some people behave the way they do.  A little bit of introspection, some kindness and you realize the world is not such a bad place to live in after all.  At times some people get so desperate, their hunger and their needs become so profound that they stoop to levels where they do not hesitate to hurt others even for petty gains.
Sam De Sillery is a single mother living in Perth, Australia. Having gone through hard times herself, read on how she reacted.
Recently, there had been a series of car break-ins in her neighborhood.

Her car was one of the many being broken into — the thieves left smashed windows in their wake.

It got so bad that people started leaving their cars unlocked just so they wouldn’t have to replace the glass.

Sam’s car was actually broken into twice in one week.
“It never used to be this bad. My friend’s garage got broken into and they stole a hose and reel,” she said.

“I mean, you might get five dollars for that.”

“So many of the crimes are petty, so that’s why I thought they might just need some food or something like that.”

Thinking there must be some reason for the break-ins, Sam decided to send a message to the thieves.

She wrote on a sign and hung it in front of her house.

“For those who keep breaking into my car, and smashing my neighbor’s car windows…
“…we are all doing it tough, if it’s food that you need, I will feed you. If you need warmth I have rugs, but most of all I can be your friend.”

As a single mother, Sam says she knows how hard things can get.

“…I get by through sharing food and support from family and friends.”

“So instead of being angry, I decided to put the sign up because I thought maybe I could help.”

No one has taken Sam up on her offer, but there have been no more break-ins since the sign went up.

Sam was able to see that the actions of some strangers were out of desperation rather than  cruel intent.

Sometimes we have to put ourselves in another persons shoes to see the bigger picture. We all have to deal with our own problems and struggles, but we can still be there for one another.
