Do You Think Ballet Is Only For Girls?

Most connotations when it comes to ballet are light and amazingly ballerinas dancing to “Swan Lake”. It’s tends to be women whom we associate the most with this art form. This is not without reason- in ballet schools most students are girls, not boys. But while the female is very important in ballet and it is her who shines during the performance, it’s men who let her shine helping her with the pirouettes or lifts her using his strength.

Men being scarce in the world of ballet are always welcomed in the ballet schools. Unfortunately, it’s not so common that the love for this beautiful form of art arises in a man’s heart. When it happens I suggest it should be supported and encouraged. In the video below we can observe such appreciation for the art of ballet to arise in a little boy:

He reminds me of Billy Elliot – main character of a movie under the same title. Billy was a young boy that was sent by his father to boxing class. He discovered that next to his boxing classes there were taking place ballet classes where there were only girls. He was standing just like this little boy – watching in awe. He later became a good ballet dancer. Who knows maybe the boy from this video will follow the example of Billy Elliot?
