The case involving the challenge to a Jan. 19 ban on social media company TikTok is before the Supreme Court, with oral arguments scheduled for Friday.
According to Gerard Filitti, a senior counsel at The Lawfare Project, there is a good chance the country’s highest court will uphold the ban despite TikTok’s arguments that its free speech rights have been violated by the law. He says this is because the Supreme Court has a history of deferring matters of national security to other branches of government, such as Congress and the White House.
