The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree was officially turned on Wednesday night. Idina Menzel, Lea Michele and Ne-Yo were among the performers at the event.

One of the brightest signs of the holiday season has come to light–The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. And Mario Lopez was invited to light the tree.

“It’s about as Christmas-y as you can get. Nothing is more Christmasy than New York during the holidays, especially when you’re going to light the Rockefeller Center tree. So this is very, very cool and I’m honored to be a part of it,” Lopez said.

The Rockefeller Center head gardener said the tree is a Norway spruce, 77 feet tall, 46 feet wide, with about 50,000 lights on it.

Visitors from other cities came to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere in New York city.

“I feel like when you grow up, you lose that like magic of Christmas. But being here feels super Christmasy, if that makes sense,” visitor Savannah Tolson said.

The tree will stay in place until Jan. 17.
