A toddler has been killed after putting a phone charger that had been plugged in into her mouth, police in India said.

The 2-year-old girl was electrocuted after taking the charger, which had been in a wall socket at her grandmother’s house, and putting it in her mouth, reported The Times of India.

Someone had been using the charger before taking their phone away. They left the charger plugged in with a switch that turns it on or off on.

The outlet identified the victim as Shevhar, no last name given. It said she had gone to her grandmother’s house in the town of Jahangirabad in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, before the May 18 incident.

“The family has not approached us with any police complaint, so a case has not been filed,” a police spokesman said. “However, if somebody approaches us for a complaint, it will be done according to the norms.”

The incident took place on Saturday but officers were not told until the following day, the spokesman told the Hindustan Times.

That outlet identified the child as a boy and said his name was Sahwar.

“According to the police, someone had left a mobile charger plugged into the electric socket. Sahwar put the charging pin in his mouth and got an electric shock, after which he fell unconscious. He was immediately rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead,” the outlet reported.

Girl Electrocuted While Trying to Save Kittens

A Texas girl was electrocuted to death while trying to save kittens from behind a clothes dryer in her home.

Greenlee Marie Buckley, 10, was reaching for her kittens when she was electrocuted at her home in New Boston on July 7, 2018, her mother told KSLA at the time.

“She loved her babies. And she would do anything for them,” Shelby Roos said of her daughter and her kittens. “I know she is up there right now with all of her babies.”

“With the heaviest of hearts I want to tell y’all our Greenlee was tragically taken from us Sat night. She was such a light in this world and everyone she ever met couldn’t help but fall in love with her,” Roos added on Facebook. “She had more compassion for everything living at 10 years old than most will have in a lifetime. Please pray for us as we try to find sense in the senseless.”

An autopsy was planned for Greenlee’s body as investigators try to pinpoint the cause of the electrocution.

“It is too early right now to go ahead and place blame and responsibility until the investigation is over,” New Boston Police Chief Gary McCrary said.

The investigation was focused on the wiring at the home, which the family has rented for about 15 months.

Relatives said they complained to the owner previously about electricity issues at the house.

The family moved out after the electrocution and is staying nearby with family members.

Katie Jimenez, a public information officer for police in New Boston, told Patch that investigators believe Greenlee was electrocuted when she touched the dryer.

“There were some kittens in her house and I guess they used to go behind the dryer, so she went back there to pull them out. She touched the dryer and they believe it electrocuted her,” Jimenez said.

The family launched a GoFundMe to raise money for animals in the community.

“Her whole life she had enjoyed helping those less fortunate than herself and had always planned when she was older to become a veterinarian and to help rescue more animals,” the family wrote. “So in honor of Greenlee we are asking that any donations be made, in lieu of flowers, cards, etc, her family would like to be able to collect funds to continue Greenlee’s passion of helping animals in our community. Please help us in honoring her memory by being her voice for the voiceless.”
