Health Secretary Steve Barclay plans to prevent patients who identify as transgender from using female-only and male-only hospital wards. In his announcement made to the Conservative Party conference yesterday (Tuesday, Oct. 3), he also said a patient’s request to have intimate care provided by someone of the same sex would be respected. His comments on gender ideology were backed by Home Secretary Suella Braverman. The Royal College of Nursing has suggested, however, that this proposal is “playing politics” while failing to tackle other issues. NTD’s Jane Werrell spoke to writer and researcher Belinda Brown earlier to get her reaction to the developments.
