President Donald Trump has defended Home Depot Co-Founder Bernie Marcus after shoppers threatened to boycott the company over Marcus’s plan to back the president’s re-election bid.

Marcus told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in a recent interview that he plans to donate a part of his fortune, which has a net worth of $5.9 billion according to Forbes, to Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign. He said that although Trump “sucks” at communicating he should be given credit for boosting jobs in America and taking strong stances against China, Iran, and North Korea.

Following the article’s publication in late June, some shoppers at the home improvement supply giant expressed outrage over the 90-year-old’s decision and vowed to boycott the store. The hashtag also started to emerge on social media.

President Trump took to Twitter to respond to the backlash, describing the Radical Left Democrats as “vicious and totally crazed.”

“A truly great, patriotic & charitable man, Bernie Marcus, the co-founder of Home Depot who, at the age of 90, is coming under attack by the Radical Left Democrats with one of their often used weapons,” Trump wrote in a tweet.

“They don’t want people to shop at those GREAT stores because he contributed to your favorite President, me! These people are vicious and totally crazed, but remember, there are far more great people (‘Deplorables’) in this country, than bad. Do to them what they do to you. Fight for Bernie Marcus and Home Depot!” he added.

He continued, “More and more the Radical Left is using Commerce to hurt their ‘Enemy.’ They put out the name of a store, brand or company, and ask their so-called followers not to do business there. They don’t care who gets hurt, but also don’t understand that two can play that game!”

Marcus was one of Trump’s major donors during the 2016 presidential elections, donating more than $7 million to Trump, according to Opensecrets.org Center for Responsive Politics.

During the interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, he said that he may not agree with every move Trump makes but he believes the president has “produced more than anybody else.”

“He’s got a businessman’s common sense approach to most things,” Marcus said. “If we look at this country, I would say that we are better off today than we were eight years ago or six years ago.”

Along with Marcus, many other prominent figures and commentators came to Marcus’s defense.

“Liberal boycotts are a joke, just like liberals. The best thing for your business is a liberal boycott. Your sales will explode after lunatic libs announce their “boycott.” Just ask Chick-fil-A,” author and political commentator Dan Bongino‏ wrote.

“You know, that can hire more people now because of this economy? Yup.. that’s how dumb the left is. ,” talk show host Joe Pags Pagliarulo‏ wrote.
