Speaking to a group of senators at the White House, President Donald Trump called NAFTA “a catastrophe for our country,” and said he would like to speed negotiations, if possible.
Flanked by Wilbur Ross, the new Commerce secretary, Trump said he hadn’t decided if NAFTA needed modifications, or whether a whole new trade deal needed to be negotiated, but he told the group that trade needed to be fair, as well as free.
“We’re starting the process, and I think it’s going to be a tremendous thing for our country, the workers, and for our companies,” Trump said.
