President Trump promises to get fair trade for US companies

President Donald Trump said at a rally in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, that he would review every trade deal and make sure American jobs and American goods got fair treatment.

“For decades, our country has lived through the greatest jobs theft in the history of the world,” Trump told his supporters. “Our factories were shuttered. Our steel mills shut down, and our jobs were stolen away and shipped far away to other countries.”

Harrisburg is in a part of the nation where coal mining and steelmaking were important industries, but have closed down or moved out.

Trump promised to renegotiate NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement, to make sure America got a better deal.

Trump told the crowd, “We have been on the wrong side of the NAFTA deal with Canada and with Mexico for many, many years.

“We will renegotiate NAFTA, and if we don’t get a good deal and a fair deal for our country … we will either renegotiate, or we’ll terminate.”

Trump concluded by promising action.

“We are reviewing every single trade deal, and wherever there is cheating, we will take immediate action and there will be penalties,” he said.
