President Donald Trump slammed the New York Times on Sept. 16 after the paper issued a major correction to an article about Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Trump indicated he was watching Fox & Friends, a morning show on Fox News, when hosts brought up how the paper walked back a report alleging there was a new sexual assault claim against Kavanaugh.
“The one who is actually being assaulted is Justice Kavanaugh – Assaulted by lies and Fake News! This is all about the LameStream Media working with their partner, the Dems,” Trump, who nominated Kavanaugh after the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy, wrote on Twitter.
Trump then quotes former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino before quoting “Fox & Friends,” which noted that the New York Times wrote in its correction that friends of the woman who was allegedly assaulted told reporters with the paper that she does not recall the alleged incident.
“DO YOU BELIEVE WHAT THESE HORRIBLE PEOPLE WILL DO OR SAY. They are looking to destroy, and influence his opinions – but played the game badly. They should be sued!” Trump said.

Trump said over the weekend that Kavanaugh “should start suing people for libel” after the paper first issued the report, which is an excerpt of a book written by two of its reporters.
“Brett Kavanaugh should start suing people for libel, or the Justice Department should come to his rescue. The lies being told about him are unbelievable. False Accusations without recrimination. When does it stop? They are trying to influence his opinions. Can’t let that happen!” Trump wrote in one missive.
In another, he added, “Can’t let Brett Kavanaugh give Radical Left Democrat (Liberal Plus) Opinions based on threats of Impeaching him over made-up stories (sound familiar?), false allegations, and lies. This is the game they play. Fake and Corrupt News is working overtime!”
Trump included the hashtag “protect Kavanaugh” in that post.
