President Donald Trump said Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh “should start suing people for libel” after the New York Times reported on allegations of sexual misconduct.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ken.) also voiced his support for Kavanaugh.
“The far left’s willingness to seize on completely uncorroborated and unsubstantiated allegations during last year’s confirmation process was a dark and embarrassing chapter for the Senate,” McConnell tweeted on Sept. 15, adding that he thinks most Americans still believe in due process.

He added, “I look forward to many years of service to come from Justice Kavanaugh.”
“The Justice Department should come to his rescue,” added Trump on Sunday. “The lies being told about him are unbelievable. False Accusations without recrimination. When does it stop? They are trying to influence his opinions. Can’t let that happen!”

The Times article by Robin Pogrebin and Kate Kelly claimed that a classmate of Kavanaugh, Clinton-connected nonprofit CEO Max Stier, “saw Mr. Kavanaugh with his pants down at a different drunken dorm party” in a lewd situation. According to the Times, Stier claimed he “notified senators and the FBI about this account, but the FBI did not investigate and Mr. Stier has declined to discuss it publicly.”
Stier is the CEO of Partnership for Public Service, which says it can “serve as a bridge between administrations, across the political aisle and from government to the private sector, bringing together diverse perspectives to develop forward-thinking solutions and put them into action.”
The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway wrote, however, that a book by Kelly and Pogrebin “quietly” noted “that the woman Max Stier named as having been supposedly victimized by Kavanaugh and friends denies any memory of the alleged event.” She added, “Seems, I don’t know, significant,” Fox News reported.
Impeachment Claims
Democratic presidential hopefuls Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Beto O’Rourke, and Julian Castro said that Kavanaugh should “be impeached.”
“I sat through those hearings,” Sen. Kamala Harris, a member of the Senate Judiciary Commitee, tweeted. “Brett Kavanaugh lied to the U.S. Senate and most importantly to the American people. He was put on the Court through a sham process and his place on the Court is an insult to the pursuit of truth and justice. He must be impeached.”
Warren, meanwhile, wrote that “confirmation is not exoneration, and these newest revelations are disturbing,” while lending her voice to the impeachment charge.
Sanders also said that he supports “any appropriate constitutional mechanism to hold him accountable.”
