Trump wants the federal government to stay out of local decisions on education. He signed an executive order to remove current unnecessary federal regulations that restrict local decision-making. He wants parents, teachers, and local administrators to be free of federally imposed hindrances.

Betsy DeVos, secretary of education, talked about why the executive order is a necessity, “Time and time again, we’ve seen that one-size-fits-all policies and mandates from Washington simply don’t work. We can’t have a cookie-cutter approach to education. Each state and each school have different challenges and each individual student has unique needs. Our solutions should be as varied as the students we serve.”

Trump is giving DeVos 300 days to identify current federal education regulations that need to be removed.
