NEW YORK—Supporters of President Donald Trump gathered outside of Trump Tower in Manhattan on June 18, in celebration of Trump launching his re-election campaign for 2020.
Participants were very direct when expressing why the president has their support.
“First and mainly because I’m an American citizen and you should always support your president,” said Juliet Germanotta, a minister. “When I was a democrat socialist for 22 years I supported every president that was in the office too.”
Dion Cini, an avid Trump supporter said the characteristic he really likes about Trump is that he’s never changed.
“You can watch the same tapes on Trump in [the] 1980s, you can watch today or yesterday, and he sounds the same,” said Cini. “That means that we can actually count on President Trump.”
Actor Tommy Bayiokos was in attendance and said it was all about the results.
“He’s a closer, and the art of the deal, he gets it done,” said Bayiokos.
Those at the rally felt satisfied with Trump’s performance, despite any imperfections.
“The economy’s better, Kim Jong Un is not shooting missiles like it’s the fourth of July every other week,” said Bayiokos. “Overall, I think the pulse of this country is better.”
Chinese Americans for Trump
A support base of Chinese Americans made up a large part of the rally, holding huge banners that said: “Chinese Americans Love Trump.”
Co-founder of the organization Chinese American Alliance for Trump, Daniel Lou, said he thinks Trump is doing everything right, including his hard stance in the trade war with China and enforcement of immigration laws.
The organization made its name by organizing and hosting the first major rally in front of Trump Tower on Oct. 29, 2016.
Lou is optimistic that Trump will be victorious in his election campaign.
“He is winning the heart of American people,” said Lou. “So I predict he is going to win a landslide victory.”
Many felt that most media outlets are unfair in their coverage of Trump and seem to be following a narrative to criticize him.
Germanotta said she lost a lot of friends when she came out as a conservative, but that she realized there was an agenda being pushed by liberals.
“I saw a lot of bias,” said Germanotta. “Even in my own community, and I started to fact check and everything, and I really saw the agenda and it really woke me up.”
Stephanie Liu, a Research assistant at New York University, said she was impressed by how Trump gave up his lifestyle and sacrificed so much.
“The media criticize him so crazily,” said Liu. “Like so crazy it’s not reasonable, they’re so biased.”
Joe Quinn, an international freight forwarder felt the bias was running through most media outlets.
“A lot of the media out there are completely in the tank for the left,” said Quinn. “You can’t trust them, a lot of people realize that the media in the United States is completely rigged.
“It’s a rigged game. So you have to take alternative media and that’s the only way to get around it. That’s why he tweets.”
Quinn was said he thought those with opposing political views should really consider what is best for the country.
“Think twice, and consider,” said Quinn. “Because the alternatives are really far off. The far left is not gonna help America.”
In general, Trump supporters at the rally were having a good time despite the heavy rain, and confident that Trump would be re-elected in 2020.
