The Department of Housing and Urban Development is releasing over $8 billion dollars in funds to help Puerto Rico with disaster relief. The agency said the delay in releasing the money was due to political instability on the island.
The department only decided to release the money after putting a team together to ensure it would go towards its intended purpose. Puerto Ricans have dealt with over 1,200 earthquakes since Dec. 28, including one as recently as this morning. Scientists are unsure of the cause. The island is also still in recovery after Hurricanes Irma and Maria struck in 2017.
