A baby girl was born 42,000 feet in the air aboard a Turkish Airlines plane.

On April 7, after the flight for Ouagadougou took off from the Guinean capital Conakry, Nafi Diaby who was 28 weeks pregnant went into labor.

Four flight attendants helped her through the birth.

“After one hour from taking off and meal service, I was walking from tail to nose into cabin. I heard a sound. I turned around and when I asked her how she was feeling, she tried to explain that she is about to give birth. It was night time so it was hard to see but when I looked closer I realised the birth had started,” said Azra Yurt, one of the flight attendants.

The flight attendants said it’s an experience they’ll never forget.

“I’ve said it was the most beautiful sound I’ve heard. We were very happy,” said Ayse Evrim Fidan, who has been flying for 17 years.

“I speak French, so it helped calm the mother. I encouraged her. I also said, her baby is a girl and she is healthy,” said flight attendant Bouthayna Inanir.

Thanks to these ladies, mother and daughter arrived safely at their destination.

Turkish Airlines, like most other carriers, allow pregnant women to fly up to the 35th week of pregnancy, but a signed doctor’s report is required from 28 weeks onward.
