Twin sisters and brothers are always fascinating and many people like to ask questions when they meet a set of twins. But Lucy and Maria Aylmer have a little bit more to share than your average set of twins. Based on their appearance, you would never guess that these two are twins! Born in 1997, even their own mother had to do a double-take when she first laid eyes on them! Coming from parents who were of mixed race, Jamaican and white, Lucy was born white and Maria was born black. But that’s hardly where their differences in looks end.

Lucy’s pale skin and red hair are a striking contrast to Maria’s light brown skin. Lucy is a ginger, while Maria has dark curly hair. Lucy has blue eyes and Maria has brown eyes. Their physical difference was a special gift at birth because skin color is not detected in routine scans given during pregnancy. One thing they do have in common, and definitely more important than anything else, is that they are sisters. And, of course, the beautiful girls are living examples that beyond our appearance, we are all born of the same race – the human race.
