Uber launches speedboat service in Croatia

Uber has launched a whole new branch: Uber Boat.

“So here we are, launching the world premiere of Uber boat service,” said Uber General Manager for Southeast Europe, Davor Tremac.

Tremac made the announcement from a dock in Maslinica, a port village on the island of Šolta in Croatia.

“This is going to be the first time in the world that we are running a full season service with Uber boats.

“We are very proud to have it in Croatia, a country with more than 1,200 islands.”

Uber’s boat service in Croatia carries tourists between islands. It can also take people from the airport to their island destinations. Since Croatia has 1,200 islands off its coast, there should be plenty of customers.

Uber already operates in several Croatian cities.

The 16 million tourists that visit the country every year are familiar with the service and seem to trust it—on land.

Uber is hoping that familiarity and trust will carry over to their boat service.

Boats come in two sizes, 8- and 12-passenger. Tourists can take the boat to a beach or a restaurant, or they can go island hopping with their friends. At the end of the day, they are dropped off at the dock.

Then they can call an Uber to drive them home.
