The U.K. lawmaker credited with the Brexit decision is leaving the UKIP, the political party that helped him make it happen. Douglas Carswell only joined the party because he was interested in leaving the European Union. Since Brexit is about to become official, he will focus on his duties as a member of parliament for Clacton, as an independent.
Carswell held a long-standing feud with previous UKIP leader Nigel Farage. Carswell had been accused of trying to split the party. But now he leaves the party on good terms.
