Households could be paid for turning off tumble dryers and washing machines to save energy during peak hours. The proposed scheme seeks to reduce the risk of the UK suffering blackouts over the winter.

Experts estimate the household energy price cap could top over 6,000 pounds ($7,059) this year, from next April.
