UK Prime Minister Theresa May forms Cabinet

U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May has chosen her new Cabinet. By and large it is her pre-election Cabinet.

Despite her harsh election loss, the prime minister still plans to govern.

“This is the government getting on with the job,” she said.

Her new Cabinet includes an old political rival—an effort to appease opponents.

Michael Gove was picked as environment secretary.

Gove tried to take over May’s Conservative Party last year. May came out on top, and fired him. She hopes including him now will bring more Parliament votes to her side.

May said she was “putting together a Cabinet that reflects the wealth and talent and experience across Conservative Party.”

She said she had picked “a Cabinet that will get on with the job of government, that’s about delivering successful Brexit negotiations and those negotiations start in a week’s time.”

May had hoped to have a strong parliamentary majority for Brexit talks. Instead, she will be struggling to find votes.
