Ukraine makes landmark visa deal with European Union

Ukraine and the EU are implementing a policy to allow Ukrainians to enter the EU without visas for short stays. The agreement will allow Ukrainians to stay in the EU up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

The legislation should go into effect in June. It will not give Ukrainians the right to work in the EU.

Marian Betsa, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, spoke about the significance of the agreement, “This is a huge step because our citizens will have mobility, will spend less time, and less bureaucratic procedures will be spent for getting visas. And it is extremely important that not only mobility of our citizens, but also another step of our integration into the European space has been achieved. So for us it is extremely important to have more integrity and more close relations with the European Union and with European countries in general.”
