Ukrainian Crisis: Russian Troops Reach Kyiv

The fight for Kyiv has begun. This afternoon, Russian troops entered the Ukrainian capital. U.S. officials say they believe Russia’s initial aim is to “decapitate” the government. Ukrainian authorities says they have handed out 18,000 machine guns to volunteers to defend the city. Russian airstrikes have hit over 30 civilian sites and residents are taking shelter in underground metro stations.
